About the event
Southern Italian folk dances trace their roots back to ancient Greece, with connections to Iran, Egypt and Andalusia, as well as to the traditions of the Romani people who traveled from Rajasthan through North Africa, Morocco and Spain to Sicily and Calabria. Artist Carmen Marsico will teach the steps of Pizzica and Tammurriata, the two folk dances most popular in Italy right now. If you travel to the regions of Campania, Puglia, Calabria, Basilicata and Sicily, and happen to attend a local festival or “sagra paesana”, thanks to this class you will be able to dance together with your Italian family and friends!
Please dress comfortably and be ready to dance. Dance shoes or soft sole shoes required on the dance floor. Bring a bottle of water.
Parking: If you’re planning to stay more than 2 hours (2-hour parking is also available on the street), you can park in the Boynton Yards parking lot, which is across the street from the Hive entrance, on the far right (NOT the Green Growers Vendors lot). please see the map HERE.
