About the event

Discover the vibrant dance traditions of Southern Italy through Pizzica from Puglia and Tammurriata from Naples. Rooted in the rich cultural crossroads of the Mediterranean, these expressive dances combine rhythmic footwork, gesture, improvisation, and playful partner interaction.

Artist Carmen Marsico will guide participants through the fundamental steps and rhythms of both styles, followed by variations and simple improvisational exercises. Pizzica brings an energetic, spirited quality traditionally associated with courtship and ritual, while Tammurriata is characterized by sensual, circular movements and the powerful rhythms of the tammorra drum.

No previous dance experience is required—just come ready to move, connect, and experience the infectious rhythms of Southern Italy!

Note: Please dress comfortably. Dance shoes, barefoot or non-slip socks only. Bring a bottle of water.

In collaboration with Pazzi Lazzi Troupe
